Magpies impress Away at Nantlle Vale
After the disappointment of loosing in the Cookson Cup Final last week, and bowing out of the Mawddach Challenge Cup on Saturday. Carl Ryan was looking to the lads to come into the game with their heads up high and hungry for the 3 points. He would have selection issues following Saturdays game with Llanrwst Utd, as two key players were suspended.
From the coin toss it was clear Barmouth meant business, forcing the home side to change ends. Barmouth started the brighter, Jake Jones and Adam Morris combining early on to force a save from the Vale Keeper. A Shane Jones strike moments later just wide resulted in a goal kick, that saw the Vale keeper injure himself whilst kicking the ball, he would suffer from the injury for the remainder of the game. Paul Lewis and Shane Jones combined well, both helping the other as Barmouth countered time and time and on 18” Jonno Harrison wining the ball on the edge of his box started a move that saw Paul Lewis slott Shane Jones through on goal, for him to drive the ball past the keeper with his left foot. They combined again on the half hour mark, this time Shane Jones would find Paul Lewis out on the right, he proceeded to drop his shoulder sending the defender the wrong way and creating enough space for him to shoot across goal with his right foot and into the side netting. Paul Lewis would make in 3-0 8 minuets later, Jake Jones working hard in midfield found Paul Lewis out on the left this time and floated the ball over to him, spotting the keeper off his line Paul Lewis lobbed him, the keeper got a hand on it and cleared the ball, only for the Referee to judge that the ball had crossed the line. Barmouth would get another chance before the break, on 43” Barmouth breaking quickly from defence, Shane Jones with a lovely ball to Paul Lewis from the right hand side, Paul Lewis fired towards goal only to see his effort blocked for a corner.
The second half started with Nantlle pressing Barmouth’s defence from the whistle. Tyler French in goal was called into action several times in the first few minuets of the half. On 48” Barmouth had a great opportunity to make it 4-0, Jake Jones putting Ieuan Brooks through on the right, he sidestepped the defender and shot on goal, keeper punches the ball clear, Adam Morris then fires the rebound across goal and hits the post, the ball then falls to Shane Jones only for him to pull his shot just over the bar, a wonderful passage of play. Moments later Jake Jones was at it again, putting Shane Jones through on goal, only for the Vale defender to block his shot for a corner. On the hour, Carl Ryan made his first change, bringing on George Sutherns for Ieuan Brooks. Daniel Griffith would win a free kick just inside the Vale half on 62”, he proceeded to take the free kick and from 45 yards, unleashed a thunder strike that smashed the crossbar. Nantlle never gave up despite the score line, and had plenty of opportunities in the second half but Steven Bratt and Joey Jones held firm in front of Tyler French in goal. Jonno Harrison and Daniel Griffith both putting everything on the line the defensive headers. Dave Linsted would come close with an effort just over the bar on 81” before he was replaced by Dave Inglis respectively. Until the end Vale battled, and at one point forced Barmouth into conceding 4 corners in succession but the Magpies held their ground and the game finished 3-0 to Barmouth.
After the game Carl Ryan was very pleased with the teams performance across the pitch. Dangerous on the counter with Paul Lewis and Shane Jones linking well, and resilient in defence.
Jake Jones was awarded Fans Man of the Match, once again the youngster showed maturity beyond his years, always working hard and always looking to start moves. Well Done Jake.
Saturday Carl Ryan and the lads head to Trearddur Bay in another Welsh Alliance league clash. Follow all the action across social media by searching @BDFCmagpies.
