Sun Shines as Barmouth Bag Four
Paul Lewis and Shane Jones get a brace each as they blow away Mynudd Llandegai
Carl Ryan and the boys were looking to take some momentum from Thursdays away win at Llangefni Town, and that’s exactly what they did.
The game started with the visitors putting Barmouth under pressure from the whistle. Within minutes Joey Jones was called into action when he broke up a Llandegai attack with a powerful defensive header, a feature of the game that would keep the visitors at Bay. 8” in Shane Jones put the Magpies in front, Great ball from Geth Evans to Llion Owen who put Shane Jones through on goal he went on to slot the ball between the outstretched keeper and the far post, and into the side netting, a great team goal. After the goal the visitors kept up the pressure but didn’t get many clear chances, Steve Bratt and Joey Jones doing a great job in defence and keeping Tyler French from being troubled in goal. Michael Irvine found himself in an unfamiliar position out on the left of defence but looked like he had played there all year, this allowed Llion Owen to be played in a more advanced position which he excelled at all game, linking up with Paul Lewis, Barmouth looked devastating down the left. On 33” Paul Lewis doubled Barmouth’s lead. A well worked goal, great ball from Dave Linstead put Paul Lewis in on goal, who fired across the keeper into the side netting. The half would finish with Barmouth on top.
After the break both teams settled into a frantic pace, chance after chance came at both ends but neither team were able to make a clear chance count. Barmouth were able to counter attack several times, Dave Linstead controlling the midfield allowed Jake Jones to push forward, Geth Evans and Llion Owen were able to push forward and support Paul Lewis and Shane Jones, who found themselves through on goal numerous times, and on 70” an impressive counter attack down the left saw Paul Lewis find Llion Owen in space, who proceeded to put a low cross across the box, Geth Evans stretched but couldn’t make contact with the ball. George Sutherns would make an appearance on 72’ replacing Geth Evans who was carrying a knock from Thursday night. Barmouth counter attacked again on 78’ Llion Owen putting Paul Lewis through, Shane Jones pulled the defence away with his run and allowed Paul Lewis to run at goal and fire the ball past the keeper.
Paul Lewis would go through on goal again on 79’ and 82’ but failed to convert his chances both efforts going wide of the goal. On 84’ Barmouth would be forced to take George Sutherns off after he was injured in a tackle, Jonno Harrison replaced him. Moments later Shane Jones put the Magpies 4-0 up as he calmly fired the ball into the back of the net when it landed at his feet from a goal mouth scramble.
A great performance by all the lads saw them climb to 10th in the table level on points with Penrhyndeudraeth who they play next Saturday. After the match Jake Jones was Awarded Fans Man of the Match for his performance, it was well deserved, well done Jake. Carl Ryan will look to keep the momentum going into the last 4 games, 3 of which are at home. Follow all the action across social media by searching @BDFCmagpies.
